Description

La Romanée, in Vosne-Romanée, is a grand cru of less than a hectare and a monopole of the Liger-Belair family. This old bottling dates from the period before the family took winemaking back in hand in the early 2000s, and such bottles are very rarely seen.

The vintage 1965. 1965 was a cool, rainy year in Burgundy; surviving bottles are rarities valued for their history more than their power.

After six decades, expect a fragile, tertiary wine: dried rose, tea, forest floor, sweet spice and earth. Its value lies in its rarity and history; condition varies with age, so it is a bottle for the collector.

Service & pairing. Serve at 15–16 °C in a wide Burgundy glass. Decant young bottles briefly; open mature ones an hour ahead and pour gently, leaving any sediment in the bottle. If opened, do so with care and enjoy it on its own.
