Description
Château Latour is a Premier Grand Cru Classé of 1855 whose heart is l’Enclos, the walled vineyard on gravel ridges overlooking the Gironde estuary. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up the large majority of the Grand Vin, which is renowned for consistency even in difficult years.
The vintage 1992. 1992 was a wet, difficult year; the wine is light-bodied and fully mature, an approachable way to taste a great label at its tertiary stage.
Deep blackcurrant, graphite, tobacco and walnut, with an iron-firm tannic frame and great persistence. Latour is famously slow to open; when it does, the power turns into depth and savoury complexity.
Service & pairing. Serve at 17–18 °C and decant generously. A wine for côte de bœuf, braised beef cheek, venison or a hard aged cheese such as Mimolette extra-vieille.
