Shafer Vineyards, founded by the Shafer family in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, is one of California’s most celebrated Cabernet producers, famous for hillside vineyards.

The vintage 1998. 1998 was a cool vintage in Napa, giving lighter, more restrained wines.

Blackberry, cassis, plum, cocoa and sweet spice; velvety, generous and long.

Service & pairing. Serve at 17–18 °C in a large glass, decanted an hour or two ahead; older bottles gently, to leave the sediment behind. Pair with prime rib, grilled lamb or aged cheeses.
