Description
Château Batailley is a Fifth Growth of 1855 in the south-west of Pauillac, run by the Castéja family. It is a benchmark of traditional Pauillac: Cabernet Sauvignon–dominant, unshowy and true to its gravel terroir.
The vintage 1997. 1997 gave soft, early-approachable wines; this bottle is mature and supple, ready to drink.
Cassis, cedar and tobacco with hints of graphite and dried herbs; medium-bodied and firm, now with the savoury, mellow character of a mature claret.
Service & pairing. Serve at 16–17 °C. A natural partner for roast leg of lamb, duck confit, mushroom dishes or Sunday roast beef.
