Description
Château Haut-Brion, in Pessac-Léognan on the edge of Bordeaux city, was the only estate outside the Médoc ranked among the First Growths in 1855. Its gravel soils give a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a signature all its own.
The vintage 1996. 1996 is a great Cabernet Sauvignon vintage on the Left Bank, particularly in Pauillac: structured, fresh and long-lived.
Smoke, tobacco, warm gravel and cigar leaf, over blackcurrant, plum and a hint of truffle; a supple, textured palate with fine tannins and a long, earthy, mineral finish.
Service & pairing. Serve at 17 °C, decanted. Exceptional with roast partridge, lamb, beef with bone marrow or a truffled poultry dish.
