Description
Clos du Mesnil is a walled vineyard of under two hectares in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Krug’s 100% Chardonnay from this single plot was first produced with the 1979 vintage, so this is one of the earliest releases of a now-legendary wine.
The vintage 1982. 1982 was a generous, ripe and abundant Champagne vintage, now showing deep, toasty maturity.
After four decades, expect a golden colour, a gentle mousse and layers of candied lemon, honey, hazelnut, brioche and coffee, held together by the chalky, saline backbone of Le Mesnil.
Service & pairing. Serve at 11–12 °C in a large white-wine glass and let it breathe. Magnificent with lobster, turbot, chicken with morels or aged Comté.
