Description

Sperss is Gaja’s single-vineyard wine from Serralunga d’Alba in the Barolo zone. For a period it was bottled under the Langhe DOC because Gaja added a small amount of Barbera; the name means ‘nostalgia’ in Piedmontese.

The vintage 2001. 2001 is a great Piedmont vintage, balanced and long-lived.

Dark cherry, rose, tar, liquorice and spice; powerful, structured and long.

Service & pairing. Serve at 17 °C in a tall Nebbiolo or Burgundy glass. Decant younger vintages for two hours or more; older ones gently, to separate the sediment. Pair with brasato, game or truffle.
