Valdicava, run by Vincenzo Abbruzzese on the north-eastern side of Montalcino, is known for Brunello of great power and concentration.

The vintage 2001. 2001 is one of the great classic Tuscan vintages, balanced and long-lived.

Dark cherry, plum, leather, liquorice and spice; dense, firm and long.

Service & pairing. Serve at 17 °C in a tall Nebbiolo or Burgundy glass. Decant younger vintages for two hours or more; older ones gently, to separate the sediment. Pair with bistecca, braised beef or wild boar.
